Nigerian international and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Toluwalase Arokodare has shared the disturbing racist messages he received on Instagram following his team’s match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
The forward, who missed a crucial penalty during the game, took to social media to express his disappointment, not over the sporting defeat, but over the hateful content directed at him. He emphasized that such abuse has no place in football and called for collective action against those who tarnish the sport with racism.
According to screenshots shared in Tolu’s Instagram post, one direct message from a user who appears to be a club fan contained deeply offensive language. The message read: "You monkey, you're responsible for Wolves' relegation, you missed 3 clear goal chances playing away from home, and then that ridiculous penalty. How long will you, black people, continue to ruin our football?"

In response to the criticism and racial slurs, Arokodare addressed his followers directly, standing firm against the hatred. "It’s still unbelievable to me that we’re playing in a time where people have so much freedom to communicate such racism without any consequences," he wrote. "These individuals should have no place in our game and collectively we have to take action to punish everyone who taints the sport like this, no matter who they are?" he stated.
