The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has conferred the prestigious Utukpa-Oritse chieftaincy title on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in a grand ceremony held in Warri, Delta State.
The ceremony carried deep personal meaning, as Senator Tinubu traces her maternal roots to the Itsekiri people of Warri Kingdom. In recognition of her service to Nigeria and her representation of the country both nationally and internationally, she was also decorated with the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI), the kingdom's second-highest honour. The monarch praised her commitment to national development, describing the honour as a celebration of her achievements, leadership, and dedication to public service.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi I, as well as other royal fathers and senior government officials. The gathering reflected the cultural significance of the occasion and the unity among traditional institutions across Nigeria.
The Warri Kingdom stated that the honour symbolises pride in its heritage and expressed hope that the strengthened bond between the First Lady and her ancestral home will promote unity, progress, and prosperity for both the Itsekiri nation and Nigeria at large.
