Former NFF President Amaju Pinnick has revealed when and how Nigeria plans to develop at least three world-class stadiums comparable to those seen in Morocco, the recent host nation of major African football tournaments.
Pinnick explained that the project is part of a broader vision to upgrade Nigeria’s football infrastructure to international standards, with a strong focus on pitch quality, stadium facilities, and long-term sustainability. According to him, the plan targets key cities and is designed to reposition Nigeria as a capable host for top-level continental and global competitions.
Speaking on Play Zone TV, the former Nigeria Football Federation boss and First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 2018 said Nigeria has both the financial and technical capacity to deliver professional stadiums in Lagos, Abuja, and other strategic locations across the country. “Within the next 1.5 years, we will have the type of Morocco pitch in Nigeria. That is the main thing, because we did that by engaging some contractors and entering into technical partnerships with the company. What we are going to have is an upgraded version of what we saw in Morocco,” Pinnick stated, expressing confidence in the project timeline.
According to Pinnick, the same contractors responsible for building the modern stadiums in Morocco are already present in Nigeria to begin work on the new developments. He added that their experience and expertise will play a key role in ensuring quality delivery and timely completion. Pinnick believes that once completed, the stadiums will significantly improve player performance, attract international matches, and boost Nigeria’s reputation in African and global football.
