Three Nigerian international players have made the headlines after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) listed them among the top ten best players at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, hosted in Morocco.
Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were listed among the best ten players by CAF, alongside Fulham defender Calvin Bassey. Osimhen, who led Nigeria’s attack throughout the tournament, was praised for his leadership and ability to stretch opposition defenses. Lookman also earned his place after delivering consistent attacking performances, while Bassey’s inclusion underlined his importance at the back, as he played a key role in Nigeria’s defensive stability.
Nigeria finished the tournament in third position after a goalless draw with the Egyptian national team, a match that was decided by a four-kick penalty shootout in favor of the Super Eagles. Atalanta star Ademola Lookman stood out during the competition, winning the Man of the Match award twice, registering four assists and scoring a seven goals during the tournament, just behind Osimhen in attacking output. Meanwhile, defender Calvin Bassey showed remarkable defensive strength, delivering solid performances from the group stage through to the semi-finals, where his composure and tackling drew praise from fans and sports personalities.
