Lumumba Explains Why He Refuses to Support Morocco Football Team

Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission figure Lumumba has explained why he has never shown interest in supporting the Morocco national football team, citing long-standing political and social actions by North African states against other African nations.

According to Lumumba, his position is not rooted in football rivalry but in historical and diplomatic decisions that, in his view, distanced Morocco from the rest of the continent for decades. He argued that the treatment of sub-Saharan African countries by parts of North Africa has contributed to deep divisions that still influence public opinion today.

Speaking during an exclusive interview, Lumumba, who was once a lawmaker in Kenya, revealed that there was a period when Morocco openly rejected its African identity and instead sought closer alignment with Europe. He recalled that Morocco once applied to become a member of the European Union, a move he described as a clear rejection of Africa. “Morocco denied being African and even applied to be a member of the European Union. They also withdrew from the African Union because they did not want to be part of the black race,” he stated, adding that such decisions left lasting scars across the continent.

Lumumba called for honest reflection and reconciliation, urging African nations to address past divisions openly. He emphasized that unity in African football and politics can only be achieved through mutual respect, acknowledgment of past actions, and a genuine commitment to continental solidarity rather than selective affiliation.
