Nigerian Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has revealed that he nearly quit professional football following the painful loss of his late parents. The Chippa United shot-stopper opened up about the emotional toll the tragedy took on his career, admitting that the grief from losing both parents within a short period almost pushed him away from the sport he loves.
According to ACL News, the Super Eagles stopper stated that his late parents’ deaths affected him deeply, to the extent that he considered quitting football entirely. Speaking candidly, Nwabali said, “Most times I feel like quitting, you know? I feel like quitting because, yeah, you know, mom and dad, but my mom is so dear to me.” He further explained that the pain of losing his mother, in particular, was overwhelming, noting that talking about her remains extremely difficult for him even now.
Nwabali also expressed how he continues to push forward despite the emotional pain caused by the loss of his parents. The goalkeeper revealed that his coping mechanism involves keeping many of his struggles to himself while focusing on personal growth and strength. “So, on how I try to keep a lot of things to myself, try to move on, try to be a stronger guy,” he added. The Chippa United goalkeeper lost his mother just two months after the passing of his father, a devastating experience that tested his mental and emotional resilience.
