Nigerian Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen finished ahead of Lionel Messi and several other prominent players in the global ranking of top goal scorers for 2025. The Super Eagles striker delivered an outstanding year in front of goal, placing among the elite finishers worldwide based on goals scored across club and international competitions.
Victor Osimhen, who was once the UEFA Champions League top scorer, claimed fifth position on the 2025 goal-scoring chart, finishing ahead of Inter Miami and Argentina forward Lionel Messi as well as Benfica and Greece striker Vangelis Pavlidis. Osimhen’s consistency and efficiency in front of goal allowed him to edge these stars despite playing fewer matches than some of his closest competitors.
According to data compiled by ESPN, Osimhen recorded 46 goals in 52 appearances during the calendar year. His tally placed him just behind Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, and Puerto Rico SSC striker Kevin Hernández, who topped the list with 48 goals in 37 games.
The Nigerian striker matched Lionel Messi’s goal total but achieved the feat in fewer matches, underlining his attacking impact. Messi, who enjoyed another productive year with Inter Miami and Argentina, scored 46 goals in 54 games, while Pavlidis registered 45 goals in 73 appearances.
