Nigerian Star Ademola Lookman Scores, Assists on Atlético Madrid Debut

Ademola Lookman Present at Atletico Madrid

Ademola Lookman starred on his Atlético Madrid debut on Thursday as the Spanish side thumped Real Betis 5-0 to reach the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The Nigerian forward, who signed for Atlético Madrid from Italian club Atalanta earlier this month on a four-and-a-half-year deal until June 2030, made an immediate impact in Seville.

Lookman scored his first goal for the club in the 37th minute, cutting inside past defenders before firing past the goalkeeper, and later provided a key assist for Antoine Griezmann in the second half. Atlético’s comprehensive victory also featured goals from David Hancko, Giuliano Simeone, and Thiago Almada.

Lookman’s performance highlighted his attacking threat and sharpness on the ball. He had multiple shots and was heavily involved in Atlético’s forward play throughout the match. The Nigerian’s goal and assist helped underline the club’s confidence in starting him immediately after his transfer from Atalanta, where he had impressed in Serie A and European competition. The win secured Atlético a place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, where they will prepare for the next round after Thursday’s commanding display.

The 28-year-old winger completed his move to Atlético Madrid at the end of the January transfer window, signing on a long-term contract following agreement between the Spanish club and Atalanta.
