Eric Chelle Linked With Marseille Coaching Role After AFCON Success

Nigerian And French Coach Eric Chelle

Following the amazing performance of the Nigerian Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), he has emerged as one of the favoured coaches being considered as French club Marseille pursues a new manager.

According to journalist Lassana Camara’s report, Eric Chelle is among the names on Marseille’s shortlist as the club looks for a new coach following the departure of Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi from Marseille. The French giants are said to be keen on appointing a manager with a modern football philosophy and strong man-management skills, qualities Chelle reportedly demonstrated during Nigeria’s impressive AFCON campaign.

Chelle, who took charge of the Super Eagles with high expectations, guided the team through a competitive tournament marked by tactical flexibility and defensive organisation. His ability to adapt his system to different opponents, while maintaining attacking efficiency, helped Nigeria remain one of the standout teams of the competition. These qualities have strengthened his reputation beyond African football, positioning him as a serious candidate for club roles in Europe.
