Following the Nigerian Super Eagles' unpaid winning bonus after four matches in the AFCON, concerns had grown among fans and stakeholders over delays in players’ entitlements. The issue sparked widespread discussion across sports platforms, with many calling on authorities to address the matter swiftly to maintain team morale and professionalism.


According to the Nigerian Federal Minister of Finance, Hon. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka, who took to Twitter to announce the update, the Federal Government in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has made significant administrative progress. She explained that foreign exchange processing related to the team’s match bonuses has now been streamlined to ensure players receive their rewards without further delay. The minister emphasized that the move reflects the government’s commitment to supporting national athletes and recognizing their efforts on the continental stage.


Going forward, Hon. Uzoka-Anite stated that the payment process will be fully optimized to guarantee faster and more predictable disbursements, aligned with international best practices.
