Nigerian right winger Bright Osayi-Samuel has spoken openly about what he believes were the real reasons behind the Super Eagles’ disappointing performance against the host nation Morocco. The clash, played in Rabat, ended in a goalless draw before Morocco progressed after winning on penalties.
Speaking during the journalists’ entrance in Rabat, Morocco, Osayi shared his honest feelings with fans and highlighted one major issue he felt played a role. He pointed to officiating decisions as a significant concern during the encounter. “What I am saying is that the referee was not the actual cause, but making wrong decisions was affecting the players,” Osayi said. “It was a big shame that Africans still have officials like that today.” He clarified that while refereeing was not the sole reason for Nigeria’s exit, repeated questionable calls created frustration and broke the team’s concentration at crucial stages of the game.
Despite the disappointment, Osayi was quick to pay tribute to the Moroccan team for their performance and composure. He acknowledged their discipline after the 0–0 draw and praised their ability to hold their nerve during the penalty shootout that eventually secured their victory over Nigeria. “They played well and took their chances when it mattered most,” Osayi noted. Showing sportsmanship, he concluded with a message of goodwill, telling fans, “I wish Morocco the best,” as he ended the chat.
