An alleged Nigerian Air Force (NAF) CH-4 aerial vehicle (UAV), identified as NAF-114, reportedly crashed near Kontagora in Niger State on January 2, 2026. Images and reports circulating on Twitter suggested that the military drone went down during an operation.
The incident is believed to have occurred in a rural area close to Kontagora, a region that has previously experienced security operations involving air surveillance. Local residents reportedly witnessed debris at the suspected crash site, prompting security agencies to cordon off the area shortly after the reports emerged.
The CH-4 drone, manufactured in China, is a combat and surveillance unmanned aerial vehicle used by the Nigerian Air Force for intelligence gathering, reconnaissance, and counter-insurgency operations. Nigeria has deployed such drones in recent years to strengthen its fight against banditry, insurgency, and other security threats across the northern region.
