Agyapong Puts Jobs First: A New Metric for Political Leadership

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kenneth Ohene Agyapong, has put forth a compelling and direct challenge to the traditional understanding of political leadership in Ghana. In a Twitter statement, Agyapong reframed the core responsibility of a leader, shifting the focus decisively from transactional election-day cash sharing to long-term job creation and securing a dignified future for the nation’s youth.

According to Agyapong, he argues that the true measure of leadership lies in its ability to secure jobs for children, enabling them to build their lives with dignity. He stressed his deep personal commitment to this cause, stating, "I have sacrificed for this party and I stand for the industry, jobs and opportunities for every Ghanaian."

The aspirant also linked employment to self-worth and societal respect. He cautioned that a lack of employment puts an individual’s future and destiny at risk. Conversely, he asserted, "When you have a business or a job, you earn respect in your home and your community."

Agyapong's call for a shift toward an economic agenda that prioritizes sustainable employment and respects the fundamental human need for productive work and self-reliance.
