US Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Violence in Nigeria, Questions Use of Military Aid

Riley Moore, who leads an investigative committee formed under the previous administration, has stated that the Nigerian government has not adequately justified the significant military assistance it has received from the United States. He expressed deep concern that this support has not effectively prevented the widespread violence affecting communities across the nation.

Moore emphasized that the severe plight of Nigerian Christians, in particular, has been overlooked internationally. He endorsed the recent decision to label Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern," arguing that this classification rightly highlights a severe human rights crisis. The lawmaker cited alarming figures, indicating that over 7,000 Christians have lost their lives in targeted violence this year. Moore concluded that if the situation continues to deteriorate without a decisive response from Nigerian authorities, the United States may be forced to reconsider its diplomatic and strategic approach to the region.
