Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche believes the Nigeria Super Eagles have no excuse for their current World Cup qualifying struggles, stating that a quarter-final finish at the tournament should be their baseline objective.
Adel shared these strong views in a conversation with journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, who posted excerpts of their discussion on Twitter. Obayiuwana reported that Amrouche, now in South Africa preparing for Rwanda's final qualifier, was still "gutted" by his team's last-gasp loss to Benin, which ended their own 2026 World Cup ambitions.
When questioned by the journalist about Nigeria's precarious situation in Group C, Amrouche did not mince words. "If I were coaching a team like the Super Eagles, with the quality of players that they have, my target would be to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup, at the very minimum," Amrouche stated. "Qualifying for the World Cup should not be the issue."
This direct quote, shared by Obayiuwana, highlights the perceived underperformance of a Nigerian side featuring several elite European-based players.
