New Patriotic Party presidential candidate, Kenneth Agyapong, has shared an emotional message following the tragic stampede at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, which resulted in the deaths of several young female applicants. He connected this devastating event to the broader failures within Ghana's economy, highlighting the desperate scarcity of opportunity that leads to such crises.
Despite a busy presidential campaign schedule, Agyapong posted a statement on his Twitter account, expressing his profound sadness. “I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives at the El Wak Sports Stadium, where young Ghanaians seeking enlistment into the military lost their lives in a stampede,” he wrote. He extended his condolences, adding, “No parent should ever have to bury a child who only sought an honest opportunity to serve their country.”

Agyapong also addressed the critical issue of youth welfare, framing the tragedy as a national wake-up call. He stated, “No Ghanaian youth should ever die in the pursuit of employment.” To prevent future losses, he proposed a concrete solution: “We must industrialize, create sustainable jobs, and build a system that restores dignity to work and hope to our young people.” Sending a direct message is needed for economic transformation to secure a safe future for Ghana's next generation.
