Amid growing calls from Nigerian supporters for a change in the goalkeeping position, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has publicly thrown his support behind Stanley Nwabali. The coach broke his silence on the matter during a recent conversation on Eagle7FM with the legendary Segun Odegbami.

According to Chelle, he made it clear that he prioritizes character and intensity over a calm demeanor. He famously stated that he does not need a "nice guy" guarding the net, emphasizing his preference for a player with passion and strength. To illustrate his point, Chelle recalled his own playing days alongside a fiercely intense Serbian goalkeeper, Vedran Runje, whose "crazy" attitude he saw as a positive force that galvanized the entire defense.

While acknowledging that mistakes are a natural part of the game, the coach was unwavering in his support. He stressed that Nwabali's unwavering commitment and the fact that he "gives everything" for his team and country are what truly matter. Chelle's public endorsement firmly shuts down the debate, confirming that Nwabali retains the coach's full confidence despite recent criticisms against him and defender Calvin Bassey during the Benin clash in the World Cup Qualifiers.
